"We don't do nothing. We don't celebrate," said Jose Torres, the victim's father.
For the last 24 years, Torres says the holiday season has been more bitter than sweet.
It was New Year's Day in 1987 when the body of his 19-year-old daughter, Lissette, was found in a lot under the Gowanus Expressway.
She'd been stabbed to death.
Now, police are taking a fresh look at the case-posting flyers around the Sunset Park neighborhood, asking for information that might help them solve the case.
It's something that the grieving father has prayed for.
"Let's see them do something because the other detectives they didn't do nothing," Torres said.
Lissette Torres had just graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School and was reportedly planning for college.
When she left her family's 44th Street home on New Year's Eve more than two decades ago, no one expected it was the last time they'd see her alive.
Monday, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly confirmed the case is being re-visited, but refused to say what new information may have triggered that.
"There's no information that we're ready to release at this time," Kelly said.
Jose Torres, meanwhile, says cold case detectives have promised to keep him updated on the search for his daughter's killer whom he wants brought to justice.
"I hope yes. That's my goal before I die," Torres said.
