Breast feeding length linked to maternity leave

NEW YORK

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies be exclusively breast fed for about six months.

But in a study of 6,000 new mothers across the United States, doctors found the amount of time mothers breast feed is linked to the length of their maternity leave.

Women who took more than three months off work breast fed their babies longer compared to mothers who took less than six weeks maternity leave.
