Firefighters arrived at the home on Central Avenue in /*New City*/ at 10:30 Friday night to find flames shooting out the second floor window .
A man who lived in the house told firefighters his elderly mother was still inside.
They tried to reach her on the second floor, but the smoke and fire kept them away until it was too late.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
