Amanda Bynes parents file for conservatorship in California

LOS ANGELES

According to TMZ, they're meeting with a California judge Friday to ask for decision-making authority over certain aspects of their daughter's life.

The 27-year-old Bynes is currently on a 5150 psychiatric hold put in place after investigators say she lit a fire on a woman's driveway in California.

TMZ also reports that Bynes' doctors say she is showing signs of schizophrenia.

The Ventura County Fire Department received a call at 8:38 p.m. PT on Monday and responded to a report of a gasoline tank on fire in a driveway in Thousand Oaks.

Witnesses at the scene told KABC Television that they saw Bynes on the driveway. They also saw a small plastic gas container on fire. Neighbors ran out and extinguished the fires as firefighters arrived.

One witness said he saw Bynes "laying down, stomach up, and her pant legs on fire..."

The woman who lives at the home where the fire was said she does not know Bynes and does not have a connection to the actress. At this time, she has not been charged with a crime.

Bynes has made headlines for a string of arrests and odd behavior. Most recently, the 27-year-old wore a bright blue wig when she appeared in a New York court on July 9 to face allegations stemming from an arrest over a reported bong-throwing incident.

The actress was arrested in May at her New York City apartment. Police say that they were told by an employee at the building that Bynes lit a joint in the lobby. When an officer went up to her unit, she allegedly threw a bong out of a window.

No remnants of a marijuana smoking device were found on the ground below. She was detained on suspicion of criminal pot possession, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. She is due back in court on Sept. 26.

Bynes has a pending DUI case in Los Angeles. She was also arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license. She pleaded no contest and was put on probation for three years.

Bynes has also gained attention for her Twitter account. The former actress has over 3 million followers on Twitter and frequently tweets about her plastic surgery plans and celebrities she has deemed "ugly."

In addition to her tweets and arrests, Bynes has been sporting several wigs in public since she shaved her head due to what she called "hair damage" from a salon earlier this year.
