The blaze started just after midnight on the second floor of a home on 73rd Street.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, and responding officiers found the victim, 38-year old Joseph Barbara, inside the home unresponsive and unconscious.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the New York City Fire Marshal.
