Security head at 1 World Trade Center resigns

NEW YORK

David Velazquez' resignation Friday comes just days after three skydiving enthusiast who parachuted off the nation's tallest skyscraper in September were arrested. It also comes almost two weeks after authorities say a New Jersey teenager was able to sneak onto the site, climb to the top of 1,776-foot tower and take pictures.

Spokesman Jordan Barowitz says The Durst Organization took over security of the tower this January. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey controls the site and is responsible for security around the perimeter.

Velazquez couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

The Durst Organization released a statement saying, "Mr. Velazquez offered his resignation and it was accepted today. His resignation is not immediate. He will remain on the job to assist with transition.

David was not in charge of security at one World Trade Center when the guys parachuted off in September. The Durst Organization did not take control of One WTC until January of 2014."
