NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police have released surveillance images of a suspect who tried to rob a woman at gunpoint in Union Square.
At 8:45 p.m. on April 7th, police say the suspect followed the victim, a 24 year-old female, into an elevator within 78 5th Avenue.
Once inside, he brandished a firearm and demanded that she lead him to her apartment where he would remove her money.
According to investigators, the victim told the suspect that she did not live there and the suspect then demanded that he follow her to an ATM where she was to remove money for him.
As they exited the building, the suspect held the woman's hand while hailing a taxi.
As the taxi pulled to the curb, the victim broke free from the suspect's grasp and fled to a nearby store.
The suspect fled the location empty handed.
