ISLANDIA, Long Island (WABC) -- A new mom is thanking a team of Suffolk County first responders after they helped deliver her baby on the Long Island Expressway.
27-year-old Jessica Ramos was on her way to the hospital Thursday night when her water broke.
Her brother-in-law pulled over near Exit 58 in Islandia.
When Officer Joseph Gross arrived, he noticed the woman was in labor and began to prep her for delivery, putting a blanket under her and reclining her seat.
EMTs arrived moments later.
They placed Ramos on a back board and carried her to the Stony Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corp. ambulance where she gave birth to her son, Noah, at approximately 7:05 p.m.
Both mom and baby are doing well.
