Exclusive: Daughter of Bronx woman hit by brick speaks out

CLAREMONT, Bronx (WABC) -- A Bronx woman remains hospitalized Wednesday after she was struck by bricks that fell from a building in the Claremont section Tuesday afternoon.

Now, the 66-year-old victim's daughter, Shakiba Dick, is speaking exclusively to Eyewitness News.

"She came from Webster Avenue, and then we were standing right here," she said, breaking down in tears. "I was sitting right there. She was standing right here. All I see was that she fell, and then that's when she was..."

It is a picture she can't un-see or get out of her mind -- the horrible image of a brick striking her mother square on the top of her head.

"Me and my mom was just standing right here, and the brick, it hit her in the head," she said. "And then she fell right here, and then I don't know. She was unconscious."

The two were in front of their six-story apartment building on Morris Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when, without warning, the brick came crashing down from as high as seven stories and knocked the victim out cold.

"I'd been sitting out here for a long time, why didn't it hit me?" she asked. "I mean, why did it wait until my mom was sitting here."

Sources say investigators don't believe the brick was tossed and that there is no apparent evidence of criminality. The building's management company would only say that the matter is under investigation.

"This building is so damaged," Dick said. "It doesn't have a super. They don't have nobody in the building."

The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where she is in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
