Bronx man desperately searching to identify Good Samaritan who saved his life

PELHAM GARDENS, Bronx (WABC) -- An emotional Mark Solomon choked up as he delivered a message to the Good Samaritan who saved his life.

"I would say thank you for everything - for being there, and I appreciate you. And just say thank you," Solomon said.

Speaking to Eyewitness News on the phone, the MTA security guard is hoping somehow he can find his unidentified savior.

His girlfriend, Bobbi Brooks, says it was around 9 a.m. on September 14th when the 53-year-old collapsed just steps from his building entrance on Mace Avenue by Wallace Avenue in the Bronx. Brooks was returning home from the grocery store when she spotted an ambulance in front of their building.

"As I approached, I saw Mark's long legs and his boots, and as I looked into the ambulance, it was him. I was shocked. I was totally devastated," Brooks says.

Brooks said a neighbor described a tow truck driver jump out of his vehicle, rush to Solomon's side and perform CPR. After the driver revived him, without saying a single word, he jumped back into his truck before EMTs arrived, and drove off. The tow truck driver is only described as a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s.

"This was like an angel, because Mark died. For a couple of minutes, he actually died. He went into cardiac arrest. He had a heart attack. He was totally out - unresponsive," Brooks added.

Solomon has no memory of the heart attack, or his Good Samaritan. He is still unable to walk and is undergoing physical therapy, but is forever grateful.

"I'm hanging in there. I still have pain in my shoulders and knees and legs. You know I'm taking it one day at a time," he says.

Solomon collapsed just under not one, but two surveillance cameras posted on his building. The cameras do work, so there is a good chance they captured an image of that Good Samaritan. Solomon and his girlfriend are hoping the building owner will help them recover those images.

Meanwhile, somebody that morning called 911 - there's a good chance it was the Good Samaritan himself. It's just another way they're hoping will help them find their angel.
