Good Samaritan looks for student who left trombone on bus

BROOKLYN (WABC) -- A Good Samaritan is trying to create some harmony by returning a trombone to a student who left it on a New York City bus, and Eyewitness News is hoping to help facilitate the reunion.

"It's a beautiful piece," Tracy Webber said.

The trombone doesn't belong to Webber, but it has -- in a New York kind of way -- ended up in her life.

Around 7:45 a.m. Monday, Webber was riding the B15 bus heading to work at Brookdale Hospital. She noticed a group of young boys, three or four of them, sitting not far from her. One got up and gave her his seat.

"When I looked up at him and smiled, I noticed one of them had a trombone shoved under his seat," she said. "And I thought, I hope he doesn't leave his trombone."

But four stops later, when the bus came to a halt on St. Mark's Avenue, that's exactly what happened.

"They looked like they were playing video games," she said. "And then they just jumped up and got off."

Webber then spotted the instrument wedged between the seats, so she took it to work, locked it up and has been trying to find the owner.

"I called the Department of Education, two district offices, and no one has contacted me," she said. "I want to hear him play this trombone, being that I've gone through so much trouble to try to get it back to him."

So far, no on has filed a claim about a missing trombone, with an official speculating that the child may be afraid to tell his parents.

"It's not his fault, he just being a kid," Webber said. "I just want to make sure he is OK and gets his trombone."
