CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A woman in Brooklyn was the target of a terrifying home invasion robbery by a man who was pretending to be a utility worker.

The 81-year-old woman was robbed at knife-point after a man pushed his way into her home in Coney Island, claiming to be a ConEd worker.

The man threatened to kill her, taped her mouth shut, ate her food, then stole her watch.

The woman managed to escape; so did the suspect.

On Tuesday, Con Edison issued a warning to customers to beware of impostors claiming to be from the company and seeking to enter a home or business.

The utility said its employees carry identification cards with their photo, name and the company's name and logo. If a customer has doubts about the person, they are asked to call 1-800-75CONED before letting the person in.
