Delta flight makes emergency landing at JFK after tire issue after takeoff in Ohio

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A Delta flight made an emergency landing at JFK Monday night, after suffering damage during takeoff from Columbus Ohio.

Flight 6077, which was being operated by Chautauqua Airlines, took off from Port Columbus International Airport at 5:35 p.m.

During takeoff, shreds of the tire came off. The pilot didn't know what happened and made an emergency landing.

The pilot did a fly-by of the JFK tower to confirm the gear was down, and then landed safely on Runway 22L at 6:55pm.

There were 47 people on board the plane, which was an Embraer ERJ 145. Nobody was injured.

The plane was met by and escorted by the Port Authority Police Aircraft Fire Rescue Unit, which also inspected the plane and found the damage.
