New York City's largest municipal union gets new contract

NEW YORK -- Mayor Bill de Blasio is announcing a new labor contract for New York City's largest municipal union.

District Council 37, which represents more than 100,000 city workers, agreed to a new contract on Wednesday which includes 10 percent raises over seven years.

That falls in line with a pattern of raises established by the new teachers' union contract agreed to in May.

De Blasio has said that he expects all city unions to follow that pattern. But some emergency services unions have balked and are calling for bigger raises.

More than 60 percent of city workers now have new contracts after the DC 37 deal.

Before de Blasio took office in January, all of the city's workers were working with expired contracts.
