3 off-duty NYPD officers save man's life at a New York City bowling alley
DONGAN HILLS, Staten Island (WABC) -- Three off-duty NYPD officers are being hailed as heroes after they saved the life of a man having a heart attack at a bowling alley on Staten Island Monday night.
Officers of Brooklyn's 61st Precinct were bowling at Rab's Country Lanes in Dongan Hills when the man bowling next to them went into cardiac arrest.
"We were about three of four lanes down," Officer Joseph Glorioso said. "So when we noticed him fall, we all ran over."
The officers sprang to action and were able to revive the 65-year-old man.
"It's great just to help people, so it's second nature to us where our training kicks in," Officer John Desiderio said.
Officer Giovanni Cucuzza expressed his heroic actions as dutiful.
"This is what we signed up to do, and I'm glad I'm a New York City police officer," Cucuzza said.
The victim, Roy Spiro, was reported to be in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
He was undergoing surgery Tuesday.
"We are forever thankful for the three officers, the man who caught him, and the entire staff of Rab's," his family said in a statement. "We are forever indebted to everyone."
