Student arrested in East Meadow after starter pistol found

EAST MEADOW (WABC) -- A student at East Meadow High School on Long Island was arrested Wednesday morning after he was found in possession of a starter pistol.

A starter pistol was recovered from the student's backpack during drug searches this morning, authorities said. It was not loaded.

Charges against the student are pending.

In a statement, police said: "The Nassau County Police are currently investigating a matter at East Meadow High School involving a weapon. Law enforcement authorities are still determining whether or not the weapon, which was not loaded, is authentic. The student involved, as well as the suspected weapon, have been removed from the building by the police. At no time were any students or staff exposed to any danger related to this matter."
