SOUNDVIEW, Bronx (WABC) -- Police are searching for the man who brutally and randomly attacked a 71-year-old man in the Bronx.

Authorities say Gregory Parris was waiting for a cab on Evergreen Avenue in the Soundview section when the suspect walked up to him and punched him in the face several times.

The suspect grabbed whatever he could, then fled on foot.

The attack happened back on February 28 around 12:15 a.m., but the force of the blows was so intense that Parris remains in the hospital more than a month later.

"He's not feeling very good," wife Rosalie Parris aid. "I belong to a church. We are praying everything will be OK."

That cab was meant to take Gregory Parris to the hospital to see his wife, who was battling the flu at the time.

"He had a walker, because he had knee surgery and hip surgery," she said.

Gregory Parris was speaking to the driver of the cab he thought was his when the suspect randomly punched him and threw him to the ground.

"It's crazy, rage," neighbor Anton Walker said. "I'm surprise this will happen in my block, in my community."

The suspect was wearing a jacket with the number 84 on it.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
