Suspect escapes police custody in Hempstead
Police say it happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Franklin Avenue in Hempstead Tuesday.

HEMPSTEAD, Nassau County -- A suspect is back in custody after escaping police custody on Long Island.



Police say 38-year-old Anthony Gagliardi was in a police car before he made his escape.



It happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Franklin Avenue in Hempstead Tuesday.



Gagliardi, who is homeless, was taken back into custody Wednesday morning.



Charges against him are pending. Gagliardi was considered to be non violent.
