NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- In this edition of 'Eyewitness News Extra Time,' we reveal video showing the moments an off-duty officer was shot during a violent scuffle in Queens on Wednesday.

Two people are in custody Wednesday night after what cops say started with a traffic argument before it turned violent.

Eyewitness News reporter Sonia Rincon was live in Woodside with the latest on the officer's condition.

Here are the other major headlines from Wednesday's show:

Idalia weakens to tropical storm after slamming Florida as hurricane

Idalia made landfall Wednesday in Florida as a Category 3 storm and unleashed devastation along a wide stretch of the Gulf Coast, submerging homes and vehicles, turning streets into rivers, unmooring small boats and downing power lines before sweeping into Georgia. Almost 438,000 customers in Florida and Georgia lost power while rushing water-covered streets near the coast. As the eye moved inland, high winds shredded signs, sent sheet metal flying and snapped tall trees. Idalia came ashore in the lightly populated Big Bend region, where the Florida Panhandle curves into the peninsula. It made landfall near Keaton Beach at 7:45 a.m. as a high-end Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph (205 kph).

Subway service restored after Times Square water main break

There are some lane closures on 7th Avenue Wednesday, but subway service is fully restored after the water main break in Times Square. Work continues at 40th Street and 7th Avenue, but overnight the city did open a lane of traffic. Crews are working to cut and cap the affected pipes, all while restoring water to a few buildings nearby.

City gives update on public school enrollment for migrant children

As New York City continues its efforts to accommodate the influx of asylum-seeking families, city officials are working to manage the scores of children enrolling in public time this coming school year. On Wednesday, New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks gave an update on how the system plans to enter its second year of managing an influx of students as a result of the migrant crisis. Helping out with this massive task is "Project Open Arms," a blueprint rolled out last year that is intended to provide help with enrollment, mental health, transportation, and translation services.
