WHITESTONE, Queens (WABC) -- A man was fatally shot by a retired police officer while attempting to hold up a bar in Queens early Monday.
The armed man was attempting to rob the Parkside bar on 149th Street in Whitestone just after 4 a.m., authorities say.
Witnesses said he had his hand in the register when the retired officer, who was in the bar at the time, pulled a gun.
The retired officer fired one shot and struck the would-be robber in the head, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man shot has been identified as 24-year-old Andrew McClean of Queens.
The man who fired the shot was interviewed by detectives. No charges have been filed in the case.
