NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police activity on the Goethals Bridge into New Jersey halted all traffic Thursday afternoon, backing it up for miles.

The incident started at about 4 p.m. Thursday was cleared a little after 5 p.m.

During the closure, traffic on the Staten Island Expressway ran all of the way to the Verrazano Bridge.

There's no word yet what the police activity was that caused this backup.

Drivers should expect residual delays through the evening commute.
