NEW YORK -- Dr. Calliope "Callie" Torres has had a variety of relationships during her 11 seasons with Grey's Anatomy, most notably with Dr. Arizona Robbins. But, before she could enter her most significant relationship, she had to walk a long and winding road.
So who do you think is best for Callie? Currently, she's dating Dr. Penelope "Penny" Blake, A.K.A. the doctor that killed "McDreamy." But, will their relationship last after she just lost custody of her daughter to Arizona because of her plans to follow Penny to New York City?
GEORGE O'MALLEY
The orthopedic surgeon's love life on the show started with her falling in love with George O'Malley, who was then just an intern at Seattle Grace Hospital. After an on-again off-again relationship, she befriends and begins sleeping with Dr. Mark Sloan, AKA "McSteamy." Despite their "friendship with benefits" Callie reconciles with George and they get married in Las Vegas. George was unfaithful with Izzie (Isn't that a blast from the past?) and when Callie finds out, they get divorced.
ERICA HAHN
After some time on her own, Callie becomes friends with Dr. Erica Hahn who tells Callie that she's a lesbian while they are hooking up. Unable to fully cope with that, they break up and we never see Dr. Hahn again.
ARIZONA ROBBINS
Callie's relationship with Arizona was her first very serious lesbian relationship. They first kissed in the bathroom of the bar, but Callie became upset with her later when George died. In an effort to make Callie feel better, she kept bringing her donuts, but that didn't go over well. After the hospital merger with Mercy West -- where Callie went to work for a short while -- they got back together after the dramatic hospital shooting. Things ended abruptly when Arizona decided to take a grant to help children in Africa, leaving Callie behind.
MARK SLOAN
Callie was heartbroken and sought comfort in Mark's arms. That night they conceived their daughter, Sofia. Arizona returned after missing Callie and tried time and time again to get her back. Eventually, Callie revealed to her that she was pregnant with Mark's child. Arizona agreed to raise the child with her.
ARIZONA... AGAIN
They were out driving when Arizona proposed to Callie and took her eyes off the road. They suffered a head-on collision with a huge truck, which resulted in Callie nearly dying and Sofia being born extremely premature. Eventually, they were released from the hospital and Callie married Arizona and they agreed to co-parent with Mark.
That arrangement didn't last very long. A major turning point in Arizona and Callie's relationship was the plane crash that killed Mark and Lexie. Arizona survived the crash, but ended up having to have her leg amputated. Arizona struggled with her situation and ultimately did everything she could to push Callie away, including having an affair with Dr. Lauren Boswell. They attempted to stay together by buying a house and trying to have a second baby, but Arizona miscarried. After going to therapy for quite some time, Callie asked Arizona for a divorce.
PENNY BLAKE
The two managed to stay friends for some time and were even supportive of each other dating other people, although it was never easy to watch. Callie and Penny's relationship was going along just fine, until she decided that she wanted to follow Penny to New York City where she had recently won a research grant. That would have meant moving Sofia away from Arizona, who is also Sofia's mother. Unable to come to mutual a custody agreement, they headed to court. In a stunning turn of events, Arizona won full custody, despite Callie being Sofia's biological mother. Presumably the judge didn't want Sofia to be removed from her home, school and other mother to follow Callie's girlfriend across the country.
Is there hope for reconciliation ever between Callie and Arizona? Callie decided to call it quits with Penny because she did not want to have a long distance relationship and lose any more time with her daughter.
