Powerful storms down trees and knock out power in Mount Olive, NJ
Anthony Johnson has the latest details.

MOUNT VERNON, New Jersey (WABC) -- Strong storms moved through the Tri-State/New York City area Friday afternoon, causing damage and knocking out power in some areas.

The active weather situation prompted a severe thunderstorm warning for several counties in New Jersey earlier, but it has since expired. Click here for a list of active alerts.

Police in Mount Olive said their town got hit hard by a storm that passed through. They have reports of multiple trees and wires down.

Meteorologist Jeff Smith has been tracking the storms.

According to JCP&L, there are 3,560 in Mount Olive Township without power.
