HILLSIDE, N.J. (WABC) -- A pickup truck driver was killed after he careened off Interstate 78 and crashed in New Jersey early Thursday during a police chase.
The truck driver careened off the highway at a high rate of speed, apparently lost control on the exit ramp, drove through a grassy area, trees and a fence, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office.
He crashed on Winans Aveune at Fabyan Place in Hillside near the Exit 54 off-ramp just after 12:45 a.m.
He was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition and later died. A second person was in police custody and charges are pending.
It is unclear why the car didn't stop.
