NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) -- A Florida businessman donated around 9,000 pounds of frozen turkeys Friday morning to the Archdiocese of Newark to help feed those in need this holiday season.
The man, Doug White, paid for all the turkeys out of his pocket. This isn't his first time either. The Archdiocese said this is his second time in three years making a generous donation.
Though not from the area, White says he's spent a lot of time in Newark for work. He selected the Archdiocese of Newark because of its history of serving those in need.
White said he knows what it's like to be hungry and is now able to give back.
"Everybody is our brother," White said. "If people had a little more kindness, we'd have a better world."
The massive delivery came from Quaker Valley Foods of Philadelphia and arrived at the Archdiocesan Center. White was present during the delivery and the brief blessing over the turkeys.
The turkeys are going to be picked up by food pantries and soup kitchens that serve Bergen, Hudson, Essex and Union counties.
