How much rain fell in New York City, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut
Rainfall totals across NYC, NY, NJ and CT from the storm on September 29, 2023
NEW YORK (WABC) -- A coastal storm brought record rainfall to New York City and across the Tri-State on Friday.
More than a half-foot fell in parts of Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens and in Nassau County on Long Island.
The National Weather Service says it's preliminarily the wettest calendar day on record (since 1948) at JFK Airport where more than 8 inches falling since midnight. The previous record was set during Hurricane Donna in September 1960.
Central Park, which is the New York City official record, had 5.86" inches. Overall, for a calendar day in any month, Friday was the second wettest day in New York City in the last decade, behind 2021 which saw 7.1" in a single day (from Ida's remnants) and the 7th wettest day ever on record, since 1869.
This brings the month's rainfall for the city to 14.21" which is second place for wettest September, behind 1882 (16.85").
