Mayoral candidates clash over opinions on education, NYC's Gifted and Talented program

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Election Day is about a month away and the candidates are working hard to get their message out to voters as the clock ticks closer to November 4.

In New York City, all eyes are on the race for mayor as frontrunner and Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa are making campaign appearances and headlines regularly.

It comes after Eric Adams announced on Sunday that he was suspending his campaign for reelection.

Meanwhile, the race for the governor of New Jersey is heating up after a recent poll put Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli in a tie.

Eric Adams drops out of New York City mayoral race

Eric Adams has announced that he is ending his reelection campaign and dropping out of the New York City mayoral race on Sunday.

In a video released on social media, Adams spoke with pride about his achievements as mayor, including a drop in violent crime. But he said that "constant media speculation" about his future and a decision by the city's campaign finance board to withhold public funding from his reelection effort, made it impossible to stay in the race.

New poll puts Mikie Sherrill, Jack Ciattarelli tied in race for New Jersey governor

In the race for New Jersey governor, Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli are tied at 43%, according to an Emerson College poll out Thursday morning.

It is the first mainstream poll to put the head-to-head race in a dead heat, and the cycle's first to not have Sherrill leading, either in the democratic primary or the general election.
