Blizzard conditions along the Jersey Shore

Eyewitness News reporter Michelle Charlesworth spent the morning along Ocean Avenue in Belmar, where waves pounded the shoreline and snow blew sideways for hours.

Plows worked nonstop, but the heavy gusts kept covering the roads almost as fast as crews cleared them. One driver spent the better part of the morning digging out his SUV, only to have plows bury it again.

Earlier in Neptune Township, residents described the storm as "nothing but white snow" since late Sunday night. Many workers were stuck pulling long shifts just trying to keep up with the conditions.

Long Island gets buried by more than 20 inches of snow

Long Island took a direct hit from this powerful winter storm, with Rockville Centre buried under fierce winds, sideways snow, and nearzero visibility for much of the morning.

Streets were empty, businesses were closed, and even finding a cup of coffee proved impossible as conditions deteriorated.

Driving remained extremely difficult, and officials repeatedly urged residents to stay off the roads.

2 feet of snow reported on Long Island and in New Jersey

The blizzard has delivered a widespread, high-impact snowfall across the Tri-State.

Northern New Jersey saw some of the biggest totals in the entire region. Freehold hit 24.2 inches. Ridgefield in Bergen County reached 20.6 inches, with many surrounding towns, including Leonia, Tenafly, and parts of Union County, piling up 17 to nearly 19 inches.

On Long Island, the storm really flexed. Quogue led the entire TriState at 26 inches, with Islip Airport close behind at 22.5 inches, and more than a dozen Suffolk communities landing between 18 and 26 inches.

New York City came in just behind the leaders, with 15-18 inches common across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Central Park officially measured 15.1 inches.
