Long Island man charged with DWI with 3 children in car

PLAINVIEW (WABC) -- A Long Island man has been charged with driving drunk with three of his young children in the car.

According to police, a Highway Patrol Officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle travelling westbound Sunday night at about 10:30 in the vicinity of exit 46 in Plaiview without lights on.

A car stop was conducted and police say an investigation revealed the driver, Carlos A. Sanchez, 28, of Hempstead was unlicensed and under the influence of alcohol.

His two sons, ages 6 and 3, and his daughter, 1, were passengers in the car. His three year old son was not restrained in a child safety seat, according to police.

No injuries were reported. The children were picked up from the scene by a family member.

Sanchez is charged with three counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra's Law), three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated (BAC +.08), passenger under 10 without restraint, unlicensed operator and driving with insufficient lights.
