HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP (WABC) -- A manhunt is underway in Southern New Jersey after two adult inmates escaped from the Cumberland County Detention Center in Hopewell Township. The two inmates are considered dangerous.

Officials at the detention center say the prisoners escaped along with another juvenile inmate just after 6 p.m. Saturday when they overpowered a guard.

State police caught the juvenile a short time later, but the other two inmates, who were being held on weapons charges, are still at large and considered dangerous, according to police.

The two inmates are adults, but were being held at the juvenile detention center because they were minors when they were originally sentenced.

Residents who live in the area are being alerted by a reverse 911 phone system.

The escapees are identified as 18-year-old Hakim Walls of Bridgeton and 20-year-old Jermaine Jackson of Bridgeton. They were last seen wearing dark blue detention center overalls.
