Suspect in Queens murder of mom found in car trunk arrested in Virginia

FLUSHING, N.Y. (WABC) -- Police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of a mother whose decomposing body was found inside the trunk of a car in Queens.

Luis Zambrano was apprehended at a Howard Johnsons in Daleville, Virginia, at 2 p.m. Friday. He will face an extradition hearing back to Queens.

He is a suspect in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Angie Escobar, who was found in the abandoned car with multiple stab wounds to the head, neck, torso and upper extremities.

Zambrano had last been seen driving the victim's car, which was found about a block away from his home parked at the corner of Murray Street and 22nd Street.

"She's a responsible mother, a responsible worker, a hard worker," sister Amy Escobar said. "Somebody had messaged our family saying the last time they were at the Mirage nightclub, they had gone back to where he lives in Whitestone. They heard yelling and a woman crying, and at 4 in the morning, they saw him walk out of the house alone with her car."

Police canvassed the neighborhood looking for eyewitnesses and video that may offer clues.

"My sister was a beautiful woman, inside and out," Amy Escobar said. "She was a beautiful mother."

The body was so badly decomposed that an autopsy was needed to make the positive identification.

Angie's sister Amy is now taking care of the children.

"And now I will have to raise them as my own," she said. "And I will. I promise her that I will."
