JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WABC) -- Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a man suspected of killing his estranged girlfriend and her son in Jersey City last week.

Police responded to an apartment on Lincoln Street on a report of a female and child not breathing.

Monika M. Potoczniak, age 27, and her son, Christopher R. Potoczniak, age 4, were found unconscious in their second floor apartment.

They were pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death for Monika was strangulation and the cause of death for Christopher was suffocation. Both were ruled homicides.

The Hudson County Prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for Jose Ronald Santos-Alvarez, age 26, charging him with two counts of murder.

Santos-Alvarez is the estranged boyfriend of Monika and the father of Christopher, authorities said.
