Newark Mayor Ras Baraka's update on snow removal after Blizzard 2016

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- The Mayor of Newark Ras Baraka spoke with Eyewitness News Saturday about what went right and Newark's main problems after Blizzard 2016.

Baraka said the city hauled off 15,000 tons of snow in a lengthy process, using several resources. The city does not have its own snow removal-vehicle fleet.

State Department of Transportation crews helped clear streets Tuesday night and Wednesday morning after the Saturday storm. Roads, while slippery, were largely usable by Wednesday, allowing students to head back to school.

At the time, Christopher Tomlin, NJDOT North Region director of operations, said they worked specifically near schools to make them accessible for students and buses. At peak times, there were as many as 200 crews working on street cleanup.
