NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York City restaurants have to worry about their health department grade, and that same grading system could be the next big thing for nail salons.

A City Council bill was introduced Wednesday that would establish a grading system for nail salons and spas citywide.

There's also a growing push to expand the health and safety training for salon employees.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Council Member Rafael Espinal, chair of the City Council's Committee on Consumer Affairs, joined colleagues, community members, business leaders and others to unveil the legislative package.

The grades would apply to all cosmetology businesses, including nail salons, spas, barber shops, beauty parlors and other similar businesses throughout the five boroughs.
