Man killed, woman wounded in shooting near Newark social club

NEWARK -- Police in Newark are investigating a shooting early Sunday that left a man dead and a woman wounded.

It happened shortly before 5 a.m. in the area of a social club on Emmett Street.

Authorities say 27-year old Daniel Morales of Elizabeth was fatally shot.

A second victim, a 29-year old woman was taken to treated at University Hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Her identity is being withheld for security reasons.

The shooting is being investigated by the Essex County's Major Crimes Task Force.
