Man shot to death in Newark store

NEWARK (WABC) -- A man was fatally shot in the back of his store in Newark Friday afternoon.

The shooting occurred at Level's, a neighborhood variety store on South Orange Avenue. Michael Jones, 33, the owner of the store and a well-liked entrepreneur in the neighborhood, was found shot to death in a back room. The store had been open for about two weeks.

Police locked down every storefront in the area when they responded to the 911 call around 1:45 p.m. They thought the shooter might still be in the neighborhood.

No one has been arrested in the shooting. The motive is unknown. The investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office is ongoing.
