NORTHUMBERLAND -- Both people on board were killed when a small plane crashed just after takeoff near Saratoga Springs.

The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office says the Cessna hit the top of a tree on a road near Herber Airpark around 5:40 p.m. Saturday.

The plane came to rest upside down on the front lawn of a home.

The county coroner pronounced 33-year-old pilot Ciprian Ivascu, of Newburgh, and 61-year-old passenger Jon Stomski, of Milton, dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
