4th alarm fire burns Elizabeth apartment building

ELIZABETH, New Jersey (WABC) -- A four alarm fire is burned through a building in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Elizabeth officials say the fire started at around 3:40pm inside 78 East Jersey Street, which is a senior care facility called "Elizabeth House." The fire damaged five buildings in total. The fire is believed to have started in the back of the Elizabeth House building, which suffered the most damage.

There was only 1 injury, to an Elizabeth firefighter, who is being treated for burns. The injuries are not life threatening.

The fire got up to a fourth alarm. Mutual aid units covered the firehouses in Elizabeth in case there were any other fires that required a response.

It's not clear how many residents were living in the building at the time of the fire.

Firefighters are monitoring the structural stability of the senior care building which may have been compromised in the fire.
