The postal worker was driving a truck on East 232 Street and Carpenter Avenue in the Wakefield section when he saw a fellow letter carrier being carjacked in his personal car just before 5 p.m. The worker drove the mail truck in front of the suspect to try to stop him - that is when police say, the suspect shot out the front windshield.
Police say the 27-year-old suspect then abandoned his Honda, and carjacked a Pathfinder a block away and holds a woman at gunpoint. He eventually let her go, but police say the man then crashed the Pathfinder on East 321st Street. He couldn't open the door, so he shot the window and climbed out of it.
The suspect is now in police custody.
The postal worker who was grazed in the shoulder is expected to be okay. null
