CROWN HEIGHTS (WABC) -- A 16-month-old child who died from injuries suffered in a fall at a Brooklyn building was laid to rest today.
The child, identified as Levi Nimon, fell out of a sixth floor window on Wednesday. Police say there were no window guards on that particular unit.
He was found on a third floor balcony by Hazolah EMT's who were going door to door looking for him.
The incident happened on Crown Street in the Crown Heights section around 11:30 a.m.
The mother reportedly told police she was distracted while changing another child's diaper.
Authorities say the boy apparently climbed from a crib onto a dresser next to the open window.
The investigation is ongoing.
The New York City Health Department released a statement: "The Health Department is currently investigating. To help prevent the tragedy of a child falling from an open window, we urge New Yorkers with small children to call their building's owner to request guards and make sure they are properly installed, and call 311 to file a complaint if a problem ensues."
