Fatal limo wreck reconstructed on CR 48 on Long Island

County Route 48 was closed in Cutchogue Thursday morning to reconstruct a limousine accident that killed four people in July.

On July 18, eight friends were in a limousine after a day touring eastern Long Island's wine country. The vehicle was slammed broadside by a pickup truck while making a U-turn at an intersection along Route 48 in Cutchogue.

Authorities said a misdemeanor DWI charge remains in effect "at this time" for the pickup truck driver who police said slammed into a limousine in Long Island wine country, leaving four women dead. In July, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said that a lab report revealed the driver of the truck, Steven Romeo, had a blood-alcohol reading of 0.066, below the legal limit.

The road, also known as Middle Road, was closed at 9 a.m. between Alvah's Lane and Cox Lane. Cross streets are also closed for traffic.

A full-size white stretch limo and two other cars are being used in the re-creation. A van with a bucket was brought in to get an overhead perspective.

It is unclear how long the streets would be closed.

John Juliano, the attorney for the family of one of the victims in limo wreck, Brittany Schulman, confirms that the family filed notice of claim for a lawsuit against Suffolk County, town of Southold and a notice of intention to file a claim against New York State.

Notices of claim also have been filed against the pick-up truck driver, the pick-up driver company, the limo company and the limo driver.
