Helicopter forced to make emergency landing on Long Island junior high school's grounds

NORTH MERRICK, N.Y. (WABC) -- A helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing on the grounds of a junior high school in Long Island.

Due to a mechanical issue and with smoke coming out of the helicopter, it safely touched ground at Brookside Junior High School.

One person was on board the privately owned aircraft and no injuries were reported.

An off-duty Bellmore firefighter and two Merrick firefighters assisted the pilot once he was on the ground.
