New Jersey teacher accused of sexually assaulting boy over 5 years

SOUTH PLAINFIELD (WABC) -- A South Plainfield High School teacher was arrested Monday and charged with sexually assaulting a boy, allegedly for nearly five years beginning when the child was 15.

John Angeline, 40, of South Plainfield, was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both second degree offenses, and a third-degree count of criminal sexual contact.

Angeline, who worked at the high school as an English teacher, is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick. Bail has not yet been set.

During the investigation it was determined that Angeline began sexually assaulting the child in South Plainfield on various occasions, beginning in August 2010.

Police began the investigation after the victim told relatives, who contacted authorities.

Angeline began working as a substitute teacher in South Plainfield in September 2005, and started fulltime as an English teacher at the Middle School in February 2006. He has worked at the high school since September 2008.
