HOLLIS (WABC) -- A toddler in Queens was hurt Sunday morning when she climbed out of a window and onto a fire escape, trying to chase after her mother who had gone to the store.

The FDNY received the call shortly before 10 a.m. at 91-58 191st Street between Woodhull Avenue and Jamaica Avenue in Hollis.

The 3-year old girl had climbed out of a fifth floor window. A witness said he saw her climb down the fire escape and hang from the ladder on a second floor landing, until she lost her grip and hit the ground.

She was not seriously injured but was rushed to Long Island Jewish Hospital with minor bruises.

The child's family is being interviewed by police and child services officials. She lives in the building with her mother and grandmother, the witness said.
