Simple ways to avoid falling into a 'Hatchimals' toy trap

BOONTON, New Jersey (WABC) -- Hatchimals, eggs that hatch a stuffed animal, are all the rage, and Hatchimal hunters are swarming stores, tracking new shipments to be first online.

Bobbie Crivelli thought she scored secret treasure spying an Ad on her Facebook feed.

"It said 'Hatchamils $49', So I clicked on it and it took me to this site," Crivelli said.

That site was Dailysavesonline.com

Criveili's penguin and turtle eggs wound up on a cross-country month-long odyssey. Originating in Texas, getting close in Kearny, before mysteriously shipping to South Carolina, then Trenton to Toms River almost 3,000 miles before claiming delivery to her home. However, there was only one problem...

"It said delivered it never delivered they never contacted me again," says Crivelli.

She called the shipper, listed as U.S. National Post, but it had a non working number, now Bobby believes got dealt a rotten egg.

The shipper wasn't the only bad number. Red flag number one - when you dial up dailysavesonline it says "please call back," then hangs up. There is also no customer service.

Next, it wouldn't accept credit cards, only offering Western Union, bank wire transfers, and PayPal. The tip? Never wire money.

Also, its website, now called 'H & D Deals' looks identical to Walmart's. Another big red flag is when products are offered well below the retail price.

"My first reaction was I started to cry and I cried until my eyes were sore," Crivelli said.

Luckily Crivelli used PayPal, which she says investigated and refunded her right away. But she learned a valuable lesson - if it looks to good to be true, it's probably not true.

Walmart calls the website 'an infringing site' and after we called is now investigating. Dailysavesonline would only say the customer got her refund but not why she never got the products.

If you're looking for a Hatchimal, Target says starting this Sunday each store will get in dozens. Walmart says tens of thousands of Hatchimals will be in their stores over the next 10 days.
