Woman leaving church robbed, sexually assaulted by 5 suspects in Queens

JAMAICA, Queens (WABC) -- A woman leaving a church in Queens was confronted by armed young men who robbed her and then sexually assaulted her.

Police are now looking for the five suspects who committed this depraved act.

The walk to the train is downright scary on 150th Street in Jamaica.

A dark, desolate, bombed out stretch of machine shops and car lots and storefront churches locked up tight.

"She was like crying, begging them for her life," said Pastor Kehinde Oyetunde, of the Celestial Church of Christ.

That's where Pastor Oyetunde says a God-fearing 50-year-old mother, one of his parishioners, was savagely attacked by a group of thugs who held her at gunpoint and threatened to rape her.

"'Pastor! Pastor! Pastor!' I was like, who is screaming?" Pastor Oyetunde said.

She ran back to Liberty Avenue to church to beg for help after her late night walk became a nightmare.

Tuesday night services had just ended. She'd been heading for the train when cops say two men pulled a gun and robbed her. They were joined by three others, who dragged her behind a garbage truck.

She told them she had HIV, but that didn't deter them. One just ran off to get a condom.

"The condom was found right here," the pastor said.

Ultimately, three of them forced her into a different sex act before she escaped, hysterical, back to the church.

Her pastor called 911, and still can't fathom it. An innocent woman, suddenly the victim of a sickening crime.

"How is this possible that this happened?" Eyewitness News Reporter Josh Einiger asked.

"That is what I don't know. I am so surprised they can do that in this place," the pastor said. "It's very, very, very, very bad. Very sad."

All day detectives canvassed the neighborhood for video and Wednesday night, police stepped up visibility. All as they try to get to the bottom of this depraved attack on a deserted block.
