Van carrying puppies crashes on Pennsylvania Turnpike

LOWER MORELAND, Pa. -- A crash involving a van carrying dozens of puppies slowed traffic on the eastbound Pennsylvania Turnpike Wednesday morning.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in Lower Moreland, east of the Route 611 exit for Willow Grove.

Police tell Action News a boxed van and another vehicle collided.

The van contained approximately 80 dogs and puppies, two of which did not survive the crash.

The driver of the van was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Four men in the other vehicle were checked by medics at the scene.

All eastbound lanes were shut down for nearly an hour as police investigated.

There was no immediate word on what led to the crash.

All eastbound lanes were reopened by 6:00 a.m.

The dogs and puppies are in the custody of the SPCA.
