EAST NEW YORK (WABC) -- One person was wounded in an apparent police-involved shooting in Brooklyn early Monday.

The incident happened at the intersection of Liberty and Van Siclen avenues in East New York just before 4:30 a.m.

The 23-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and rushed to Brookdale University Hospital with injuries that were not believed life threatening.

Officers encountered the man, said to be armed, while responding to a call for disorderly conduct. He fled on foot, and police gave chase.

Authorities say he turned at the officers with his gun, and one officer shot him.

The officer, who was not injured, was taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment.

The man's weapon was recovered at the scene.
