Family of bus operators honored as MTA Heroes

NEW YORK (WABC) -- This week's MTA Hero honors a few bus operators as we approach Father's Day.

This week's heroes of the week are a trio of bus operators just in time for Father's Day.

Steven Sierra has been a bus operator on Staten Island for 15 years, since his sons Sion and Silas were nine and eight years old. Steven says he never imagined his sons would follow him into transit.

Steven says it's exciting and surreal to see his once young sons, now young men, driving buses like he has for so many years.

The Sierras say they all love being behind the wheel, meeting new people and getting to see new neighborhoods.

Meantime the Fiore family is also being honored. Stacey Fiore begam working as a bus operator in July 2013. Her husband Greg followed in November 2013, and their son Greg joined his parents on the road in 2022.

Stacey now works as a Supervisor on Staten Island, so she's the boss at work and at home! They say the greatest thingy about being a bus operator is that you're out in the field seeing something new every day.

Stacey and Greg say having their son on the job has been a great opportunity to watch him grow professionally, and having three bus operators in the family certainly makes for some interesting dinner conversations!
