12 people hurt after fire breaks out in basement of Brooklyn apartment building

GREENWOOD HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A second alarm fire in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn, injured 12 people Sunday night.

Police say the fire started in the basement of an apartment building on 27th Street after 9:30 p.m.

Fire spread to first floor, but firefighters were able to stop if before it got to the second floor.

Six residents, four firefighters and two NYPD officers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries .

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
